Rick Saddler (Learn More From Hit and Run Candlesticks) is a swing trader who focuses on price-action, chart patterns, candlestick signals, and trade management.  He mainly uses the daily chart but tends to be a shorter-term swing trader. On average, Rick takes more trades than Doug but fewer than John. He also gets out of his trades faster than Doug but tends to stay longer than John.

Rick strictly trades stocks and directional monthly options (buying calls and puts). His primary focus is on charts and how each trade is planned and managed. HRC is, therefore, more appropriate for someone who trades stocks, ETFs, and simple directional options (buying puts and calls) on a swing basis (1-20 days on average, with most being closed in 3-15 days).

Rick will explain his options chains and trading platform, 99% of the focus in HRC is on the chart.  He covers his ticker watchlists (including putting out 8-12 trade ideas each day), sends alerts on every trade he takes, and answers questions from users about tickers and topics of interest to them.

HRC starts at 8:50 am Eastern and runs until 10:30 am (when Rick breaks to do administrative tasks and have lunch).  He returns to the room at about 1 pm and then presents the rest of the day (depending on market conditions) until shortly after 4 pm.

Doug Campbell (Learn More From Right Way Options) is a swing trader focused mainly on monthly options. This includes the entire range of options strategies (directional, credit/debit spreads, butterflies, condors, ratio spreads, calendar, synthetics, etc., As well as a simple stock trade). Doug’s trades also tend to be longer in duration than HRC or BYOB. While his trades can have profits taken quickly, typically, they are open for 1-2 weeks (and can last much longer).

If you want to “learn options,” especially the more advanced options strategies involving multiple legs (spreads, etc.), then RWO is for you. Doug spends about 50% of his time on charts and price action, with the other half spent on options tools like chains, P/L graphs, theoretical pricing tools, etc.

Like Rick at HRC, every trade starts on the chart with price-action, pattern, and planning. In fact, Doug is fond of saying, “Price is King.” However, Doug is more focused on trading rules and discipline, which leads him to take fewer trades than Rick or John. In addition, he spends more time on options-specific content involving options chains, Greeks, various options tools, and a much wider variety of options strategies.

Doug covers the overall market as well as tickers of interest (including covering every trade he takes). He starts each market day at 9:30 am Est. and presents until 10:30 am Est. He then breaks to prepare and do administrative work. Doug returns for the main RWO education session from 11 am Est. – 1:00 pm Est. He then comes back for the last 30 minutes of the trading day.

John Carignan (Learn More From BYOB Trading) leads a trading community focused on short-term day trades, scalps, position trades, and zero-day to 3-day to-expiration option trades. Like Rick and Doug, every trade starts with the chart, and John explains what he sees, what he expects, and the parameters of each of his trade setups. Of course, he is always willing to review tickers or setups from the members and answer any questions members pose in the chat.

John’s trading style focuses on short-term price action, price patterns, and momentum. His trading screen is broadcasted for traders to see the entry price, additions, closing price, and trade management. He presents from 8:00 am to noon and returns at 3:00 pm for the market close each day.

John’s goal is to aid all members in achieving a 10% per month profit target. Being a day and scalp trader, he puts on more trades than Rick or Doug. However, those trades are short-duration, limiting risk regarding trade length and acceptable move against the entry.

When considering a chart for a trade, it might be helpful to look at conditions to help with the final decision. I have found at least 3-5 conditions must be met.

Possible conditions:

  1. Is the trend in your favor for the chart you are considering?
  2. Is the market trend in your favor?
  3. Is the market trend in your favor?
  4. Is support or resistance in your favor?
  5. Are the T-Line and price in your favor?
  6. Is the Trendicator in your favor?
  7. Is there enough room to make money?
  8. Are your indicators confirming?
  9. Does the risk & reward make sense?
